In addition to injection, compression, transfer and flashless molding presses, Soucy Baron possesses equipment for rubber mixing and cryogenic finishing of parts.

 

A line dedicated to bonding of metal inserts ensures the production of rubber-metal parts. This equipment mainly produces parts for the control of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), a Soucy Baron specialty.

NVH: Noise, Vibration and Harshness Control

Soucy Baron has developed expertise in analysis and control of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Applications in the NVH field are numerous; one example that benefits greatly from our science is the engine mount, since this component isolates the chassis from engine vibration.

There are three main ways to improve NVH control:


Reducing the magnitude of the stress

(e.g. improvement of the rotating mechanism)

Stopping the noise and vibration pathway (e.g. a barrier or an isolator)

Absorbing noise and vibration (e.g. noise absorbers or mass dampers)

With its long experience in developing rubber compounds and its formulation database, Soucy Baron has the expertise to determine the type of elastomer, and its composition and additives required to meet the specific needs of your application.

 

We can also use an existing formulation when its properties correspond to the specifications of the desired part.

Vulcanized elastomers are known for their tensile capacity – elongating up to 10 times their original length – to keep their low temperature flexibility, and to take their original shape. Soucy Baron can also make use of additives which alter, among other things, resistance to abrasion, chemicals, wear, and tear. These additives can also incorporate fragrant agents, coloring pigments and flame retardants. The possibilities are almost endless!

Overmolding and Bonding

Overmolding consists of coating a metal or plastic insert with an elastomer, while bonding is used to combine the mechanical strength of a rigid structure (metal or plastic insert) with the flexible characteristics of rubber. To do this, the insert is first sanded and coated with adhesive that is sprayed manually or automatically on the surface to be in contact with the elastomer. This bonding creates much more efficient systems than simple assembly.

The bonding reaction occurs during overmolding, which can be done by compression, injection or transfer. The overmolding reduces costs by eliminating the extra steps of assembly and finishing. In addition, this method improves the part's watertightness and damping properties, while respecting the target physical and mechanical properties depending on the part application.
